The
widow Edo State Governor, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, rebuked for blocking
the road with her goods recently, Mrs. Joy Ifijeh, yesterday said she
snubbed the offer of N250, 000 made by the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) in the state because she was satisfied with the governor’s
apology, job offer and the N2 million gift.
Ifijeh also said she was not ready to be used as a pawn or tool by
the PDP on the chessboard of politics and advised the party to give the
money to any other needy widow instead.
Speaking yesterday at the Government House in Benin City, during the
presentation of her letter of appointment into the Edo State War Against
Indiscipline (WAI) outfit, presented to her by the Special Adviser to
Governor Oshiomhole on Media and Public Affairs, Prince Kassim Afegbua,
she expressed gratitude to the state governor.
“I want to thank Governor Oshiomhole sincerely for this appointment
and I wish to state that I have forgiven him from the bottom of my
heart. As for the money promised me by PDP, let them give it to other
widows. I do not need the money.”
She described the governor’s gesture as humane and promised to support the government policies and programmes in the state.
Earlier, while presenting the appointment letter, Afegbua said, “The
appointment is in fulfilment of Comrade Oshiomhole’s promise to offer
the widow employment into the service of the state.”
He said the appointment is effective from December 3, 2013 and added
that she would be expected to resume immediately in conformity with the
ethics of her job.
It will be recalled that Mrs. Ifijeh was on Monday offered N2 million by the governor along with an instant employment.a
